preserve xattrs omits the rsync xattrs produced by fake-super. e.g.:
    rsync source/ dest/ --fake-super
    rsync dest/ dest2/ -aX
    produces dest2 which is not identical to dest (missing xattrs)

the solution is to double the -X switch, i.e. -XX. this is now documented in the rsync man page.
